Stephen Browning and Rob Colley were commissioned by the National Gallery in 2018 to carry out a feasibility study and review of the masterplan for St Vincent House, including exploring the potential to link this space to the main building to create a suite of new galleries for visiting exhibitions.
In addition to evaluating spatial and usage options for St Vincent House, the feasibility study assessed the potential impact of redevelopment across the wider estate. Working closely with the Gallery’s Executive Team, we examined how the proposals could enable larger and more frequent special exhibitions, and the implications for visitor numbers, opening hours, catering, retail, security, and ticket revenue.
The feasibility study also considered requirements for enhanced education facilities, a world-class Research Centre, and creative co-working spaces. Alongside this, we explored the National Gallery’s relationship with Trafalgar Square and opportunities to strengthen connections with Leicester Square and the wider West End.
We were delighted to hear that the National Gallery has recently succeeded in raising over £375m towards their redevelopment plans for St Vincent House and to enhance the collection and the exhibition galleries.
