Stephen and Rob Colley were commissioned by the National Gallery in 2018 to undertake a review of the masterplan for St Vincent House and to look at the feasibility of linking this space to the main building to provide a set of new galleries for visiting exhibitions. As well as reviewing the spatial and use options for St Vincent House our work included assessing the potential impact of the redevelopment across the whole estate. Working closely with the Executive Team at the Gallery we examined how the redevelopment might create opportunities for larger and more frequent special exhibitions and also how this might impact on visitor numbers, on opening hours, catering, merchandise, security and ticket revenue. We were also asked to assess the requirement for enhanced education facilities, for a world class Research Centre and for creative co-working spaces, along with examining the National Gallery’s functional relationship with Trafalgar Square and the potential to improve connections with Leicester Square and the West End.
We were delighted to hear that the National Gallery has recently succeeded in raising over £375m towards their redevelopment plans for St Vincent House and to enhance the collection and the exhibition galleries.
