Arts Council England and Sunday Opening of Theatres

Stephen was asked by Arts Council England to assess whether there could be advantages if theatres were open to the public on Sundays.

Our report, Tell me on a Sunday, showed that there were significant opportunities for theatres to reach a wider audience and that Sunday opening would encourage existing theatregoers to attend their local theatre more frequently. In January 2007 the Arts Council announced that it would back the Sunday opening of theatres as a way of ‘enabling more people, from a wider range of backgrounds, to engage with theatre’.
